Later today I am going to see my first pantomime. A traditional glorious British Christmas panto. If you don’t know it, have a quick look on YouTube to get an idea of what it is. We are going to the Birmingham Hippodrome to see Dick Whittington.
Wikipedia calls pantomime ‘a musical-comedy theatrical production traditionally found in the United Kingdom […] and […] mostly performed during the Christmas and New Year season.’
I call it Camp Christmas, involving cross-dressing, slapstick, sexual innuendo, song and dance, and audience participation.
Not enough? Want to bring it up a notch? OK, let’s throw Julian Clary in.
Wanna make the camp-o-meter explode? Alright then, Joan Collins as Queen Rat.
I can’t wait! It’s a Christmas present from Stuart, he knew I had never been to one and I am sure he has chosen the best in the country this year.
